In the article “What the Crows Know”, Andersen talks about the concept of the variation of consciousness within animals and whether there is any at all. He talks about the Jains and their belief that animals have the same consciousness as human beings. I found it interesting given this belief and the minority that believe in it especially in India given the examples and the imes where animal consciousness is shown and seen by humans for example the monkeys communicating with deer about a potential predator in the area. Although I do not agree with the Jains and their belief of the full consciousness of animals I do believe there is some. That is to say that I believe that all animals have some kind of conscious behaviors in their environments but the level to which they show or have that varies between each animal and even each species within these animals. Andersen talks about how evolution has played a part in creating this consciousness so it is not crazy to say that if these animals continue to evolve especially in their own surroundings that there will be full consciousness within these animals and that the Jains belief can come true if not true already. This article suggest not only mammals but all animals appear to have some sense of consciousness although they may vary from each species and each individual animal that are reactive to the ability of the human being and our full consciousness that we express.
